HAY's J42 CHAIR is a classic chair by Børge Mogensen, reproduced by HAY.

The slightly sloping back and widely spaced spindles create a clean, timeless design with a high level of quality.

The design, with its large wooden plywood seat, is hardwearing and extremely comfortable to sit on.

His designs, characterized by strong lines and a structure that takes durability into consideration, embody Danish modernism with their simple, clean beauty and sleek proportions. This chair is a representative example of Scandinavia.

Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) was one of the greatest Danish designers of the 20th century, creating a huge number of high-quality furniture pieces that were simple yet minimalist, functional and durable.

After training as a cabinetmaker, Børge Mogensen studied furniture design at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts and then architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He later became design director for the Danish cooperative FDB, where he worked to create furniture for the general public that combined high design and functionality with advanced industrial manufacturing techniques.
