FDB FDB Möbler Genuine J46 Chair Dining Chair Nordic Chair Stylish
The first president of FDB Möbler was Børge Mogensen.
Later, Paul M. Volta, a furniture maker who had trained in Hans Olsen's workshop, was recommended by his close friend Hans J. Wegner to take on the important role of second-generation representative.
Paul M. Volta's masterpiece is the J46.
Inheriting FDB Möbler's belief that "furniture makes people happy," we designed the J46 by further removing the decoration from the Windsor chair and following the example of the Swedish Peg Chair, which is simple and easy to process.
Its ease of use and simple, beautiful design were quickly accepted by the Danish people at the time, and it became FDB Möbler's number one hit in Denmark at the time, surpassing Mogensen. It was such a popular chair that 850,000 chairs were produced, and it is said that one in five Danes at the time owned one.

After studying at Hans Olsen's workshop, Poul M. Volther graduated from The School of Arts and Crafts and obtained a master's degree. After graduation, he worked as a teacher at The Danish School of Art and Design, where he devoted himself to nurturing young designers.
In 1949, he was introduced to FDB by Wegner and joined the company. In the following year, 1950, he took over as design manager from Mogensen's position, and at the same time inherited Mogensen's belief that "furniture improves people's lives" and made it his guiding principle. The J46, which Mogensen's furniture did not aim to secure jobs or money for people, but instead emphasized functionality, simplicity, and ease of use, is said to be FDB's biggest hit product, and was exhibited almost every year at the Danish Cabinet Makers' Guild exhibitions in the 1950s. Upon retiring from FDB in 1956, he returned to teaching at the School of Applied Arts in Denmark. Many designers used his simple designs as a base under his guidance.
He was a perfectionist in terms of design and functionality, and disliked short-lived furniture such as fads, leaving behind many sturdy and simple designs. He modeled his furniture after the modern Swedish-style peg chair, which originated from Windsor furniture, and improved the quality of life for the Danish people.
Representative works include "J46", "J48", and "Corona Chair".
