This dining chair was designed by Sori Yanagi.
The frame, back and seat are all made from the same wood species (white ash), creating a unified structure.
The back and seat are made of molded plywood to fit the body and provide a comfortable seating experience.
When not in use, they can be stacked together for easy storage, making this chair very user-friendly. Also available in upholstered (fabric) seat.
Who is Sori Yanagi?
Born in Tokyo in 1915. After graduating from Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts), he joined the Sakakura Junzo Architectural Institute in 1942. In 1950, he established the Yanagi Industrial Design Institute, a foundation. He subsequently designed the prototype for the Butterfly Stool, which after several years of research and development was unveiled at the Yanagi Industrial Design Research Association exhibition held at Matsuya in Ginza in 1956. In 1958, the Butterfly Stool was selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1977, he was appointed director of the Japan Folk Crafts Museum, which was founded by his father, Yanagi Muneyoshi. In 2002, he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit.
